Wow - I had no idea that there was that much of an effect. I love Reno. I don't gamble much, but when I do, it's in Reno. I hate the paper ticket machines at the indian casino.

There is an indian casino about 35 minutes north of me - but I still drive 5 hours south to leave my money in Reno. The food is better too.

I don't gamble. I detest it. I do however understand it's relationship to the area's economy.

Thunder Valley Casino is large and has a captive market in Sacramento. That's about all it has going for it. Zero personality. Boring machine selection and an unimpressive staff. And overall, the slots are tighter than Reno.

Update downtown Reno as destination gambling place and you will hold your own.

Sacramento will pick up what looks to be a nicer casino soon when RedHawk opens on the Highway 50 corridor.

Maybe so, but many people don't want to spend a extra $100 or more on gas driving to Reno and back.

I've been in the Indian casinos numerous times as well as the casino's in Reno, my take on the Indian casinos is they are much more customer firendly to non-smokers for myself I appreicate that, they are much cleaner than the Reno casino's.

The fuel charges may prevent somebody from coming from California to Reno but it's much more than just the fuel charges. Reno needs to focus their advertisment on the variety of casino's, their headline shows, the over all events they have going on it's not just about gambling. That's my take may be in left field.

Default Reno and Gaming

Reno's gaming growth is over. Downtown Reno has been in a state of decay for decades with no hope of new growth. The Reno gaming industry was warned years ago about the growth of trbal gaming and they laughed it off to their harm. Reno still has a couple of nice casinos (Silver Legacy, Peppermill) but most are struggling to make ends meet.

This is so false, downtown Reno is improving every day. Also, I have heard numerous rumors of new casinos coming to town.

When we were there over the Christmas holiday it looked as if there was building going on all over. The Peppermill looks great from the outside haven't seen the inside for about a year. There several posts that talk of the facelift that Reno is getting and for that I think it's great, the traffic is another story yikes

I enjoy to gamble and I can stay at the table for as long as the $20.00 keeps there, usally not very long.
