Once again, as I have noted since joining this forum, you swoop in from left field and land absolutely nowhere. Go pull the wings off someone else's flies.
You give Nevadans a bad name.

Sun Valley cannot be compared to Oakland. The population is only several thousands but there is a lot oaf gang activity
As of early 2007, there were 38 registered sex offenders living in Sun Valley, NV.
You do not want to live in Sun Valley.

I lived in Sun Valley for a month. It was not a bad neighborhood at all. In fact, it was way nicer than where I live in Vegas. I lived in the newer houses right by the mountain where the road dead ends.

We do have gangs in Reno, but I wouldn't compare the prevalence to an area like Oakland at ALL. As far as Sun Valley in particular, this is one of the more crime-ridden areas, mainly because of the lower income of the residents. I work in the narcotics unit at Reno PD and I can tell you that a lot of drug activity is going on in Sun Valley. Drugs are not as closely tied to gangs in Reno as they are in other cities, though, so I wouldn't say that means gangs are worse in Sun Valley.
If you are comparing areas within Washoe County, then yes, Sun Valley is generally viewed as the bottom of the barrel. However I wouldn't compare Sun Valley with the worst parts of Oakland, Fresno, etc. - Sun Valley is just more of a dump than anything else.

I live in the South McCarran area and gang activity is out of control. They now gather in Jamaica Park and there are shooting almost every weekend. I've move 3 times to get away from the crime. My car was stolen and trashed because I complained about the noise. There is no where I can move now except our of state and I don't know of any state were they are not.

I somehow doubt you can compare Sun Valley to Stockton. It's like there's a wannabe gang banger in every other car in Stockton, and I highly doubt their citizenship. Stockton is a dreadful enough place to drive through, please don't compare it to probably a decent town like Sun Valley.

Old Thread, but, I worked in Sun Valley for a number of years. Sun Valley is fairly peaceful. The folks there do not represent the highest career and education levels, but most folks are just muddling through and fairly happy. I would not live there, but I would not live in any town. Sun Valley has plenty of people trying to make their part of the world a better place.

We wound up buying a place kind of between Reno and Sun Valley. I've been out there a bit, mostly to pick up something at the grocery store. Gangs do not come to mind when I go there. I see a lot of blue collar people, middle class type like most of us. I've yet to see or have a problem. Gang Ridden? No. It doesn't really seem (to me) to have any remarkable pros or cons.. it's just kinda there.

Obviously, if you have NO experience living in Oakland/Fresno/Stockton then it will be hard for you to compare, so if any of you have experience living in any the the 3, then please reply.
thx

I was born in San Francisco raised in Oakland untill 11 then moved to Fresno. I was raised there and when I turned about 22 i lived in Stockton for about a year. I am a resident of Reno and let me tell you that Sun Valley in no way shape or form should be compared to any of the mentioned areas. Murders, shootings, and gang violence happen on a daily basis in these places. Sun Valley may be alot of things but gang ridden it is not. Take it from me I lived in the worse neighborhoods in all three cities

Crime, Sun Valley vs Oakland, Fresno and Stockton
I was born in Oakland, but currently live in Reno.
The older parts of Sun Valley are some of the most crime ridden parts of Washoe County, especially the area around Leon Drive. Every Sherriffs Deputy knows exactly where Leon Drive is. There are a lot of drug, alcohol, sex and child abuse crimes in Sun Valley.
The newer parts of Sun Valley are better.
However, relative to Oakland, Fresno and Stockton, all of Sun Valley is not so bad from a crime perspective. Everything is relative. You picked 3 of the worst cities in Northern & Central California for comparison puroposes. Relative to those 3, most cities in America are pretty safe.

In spite of comments on this thread, Fresno is safer than Sacramento, San Francisco, Portland, Salt Lake City and others.
Out of 350 cities, per capita crime ranked highest to lowest:
5. Oakland
45. Stockton
51. Sacramento
69. Salt Lake City
102. San Francisco
141. Portland
144. Fresno
159. Reno
