Default Which Gardnerville Ranchos elementary school is better - Meneley or Scarselli?

Can anyone give me a comparison of the Meneley and Scarselli elementary schools in the Garnerville Ranchos? We are moving to the borderline street (Kimmerling), and although the school district says my son would go to Meneley, we were concerned when we rode by the school and saw shoes hanging on the wires. Drug dealing right near a school yard? Should we be concerned about Meneley and ask for permission that he attend Scarselli instead? Thanks in advance for your advice!

My three sons attended CC Menely but that was back in the seventies when Fritz Battcher was principal. My sons still live there today. Times have changed from the friendly one horse town it used to be. Growth is good and if you like Gardnerville today, you would have loved it back when.Good luck with your decision. Tom

Default Thanks, Tom!

Dear Tom,

Thanks for your input. We ultimately based our decision on each school's accountability report to the state. Meneley had several students suspended last year for drug and weapon possession, and Scarselli had none such suspensions. Although the overall academic grades were better at Meneley, when broken down by gender, boys achieved better grades at Scarselli. So that's where we decided to send him. Getting a variance was very easy, so the school district must be used to these types of requests.

I had lived in Gardnerville in 1993-94, and fortunately it hasn't changed much since then. The chant is, "We don't want to become another LA." A newspaper article published this week said that Carson City is expected to continue growing, but that Douglas County's growth has, by contrast, been slowing. Thank goodness!

Sincerely,
A Happy Mom

Default Gardnerville Schools

I remember when the Gville Ranchos had only five houses. They were prefab and I remodeled many of them. Go look on Palisades dr. I do not keep up on all the current events as I am a senior and only have memories. I remember when you could go downtown for a haircut. The barber shop was next to a bar and the barber could knock on a small door and order a beer. I always enjoy the Carson Valley Days activities. Gville just grows on you. I am sure you will
be happy there.
Tom.
