Am tentatively planning to relocate to the Reno area sometime next year with my in-laws. My FIL's parents live in the Bay Area of CA, and we would like to live as close to them as we can... without living in California! Three hours seems like a do-able distance.

My husband is an I.T. professional, and I'm an English (ESOL) tutor. What are the chances of us finding good jobs in the Reno area?

We prefer a more laid-back lifestyle, and would probably want to live somewhere *outside* the city... but need to be a fairly direct drive away from the g-parents in the Bay area.

I was thinking about Verdi -- what can you all tell me about it? How long does it take to get to Reno from Verdi on a weekday (with commuter traffic and all)?

Are there decent, affordable places to live in Verdi? Any real estate offices located near there? Someone on these forums said that it's mostly trailer parks or high-end houses -- is there anything in the middle? (And can you swim in the Truckee river, by any chance?)

How is the elementary school? Our son will be going into 3rd grade.

We would also like to have horses at some point. What are the chances of that in Verdi?

Do yourself a favor and come with a job. Don't move and look for one. Verdi is about 20 minutes (max) from downtown. You could also look north into the Stead/Cold Springs area. Verdi can be VERY expensive. Mogul is a bit more sane as far as pricing goes. Horses will likely be a no go in Verdi unless you spend some serious coin. Again, North Valleys would be better.
