I haven't been there for some years. Last time I was there, I stopped into this casino called "Eddie's Fabulous Fifties." What a great place! It was like a retro "American Graffitti" casino, I had breakfast there.
Is it still there?

I didn't read most of the posts, just the first few, so I'm not sure if anything I say will be repeats.
Good-
-If you like snowy winters.
-If you enjoy mountians all around (I personally don't, my mom does.)
-If you like casinos and that kind of thing.
-Alot of jobs. Not all good ones, but still with all the casinos and hotels there are alot.
-Hot summers
Bad-
-People are
_Rude
_Bad drivers (in general)
_Purposely hurtful and mean
_Discriminating
-ALOT of violence (how many murders just this year, just random shootings in a store parking lot in the middle of the day?)
-TERRIBLE schools. Not only bad in education, but terrible in protecting students from other ones.
The biggest mistake my family has made was moving here.

Sorry, but that is baloney, Reno is a town made up of families just like any other. Some people are good, some people are bad, just like everyplace you will ever go. Reno is no better or worse than most places.
Let us take a look at what was found good,
Good-
-If you like snowy winters.>>>>>>>>> Winters are not very snowy, one can happily live with a two wheel drive car.
-If you enjoy mountians all around (I personally don't, my mom does.)>>>>>>>> The make no difference in most peoples lives, they are simply there.
-If you like casinos and that kind of thing. >>>>>>>>. Again, like the mountains they are simply there, nothing makes you pay any attention to them.
-Alot of jobs. Not all good ones, but still with all the casinos and hotels there are alot. >>>>>>... Not all jobs are good, that is life, it all depends on what training or education you have.
-Hot summers>>>>>>>> Not very hot, not compared to Las Vegas, Fallon or Sacramento or Kansas, Tennessee, Georgia New York etc. Summer temps in the 90's

....are you just adding to what I said, or are you trying to sort of battle with me on it?
Cause I was saying these things are good. I wasn't trying to make them bad.
And mountians and casinos can very much affect peoples lives and the place they live. My aunt left here because the moutians made her feel so trapped she had a panic attack. So for some people, they are bad.

Reno is not for everyone. I have been there many times, and I'm not sure I would live there.
Reno is fairly isolated, but if you enjoy mountains, outdoors, lake tahoe, etc.. you'll be in great shape!

Anything can affect anything, to say that Reno is not a good place because someone had a panic attack is to negate the tens of thousands that picked
Reno precisely because of its geographical setting.. To say that Caisinos are bad for some people, again negates the tens of thousands who visit Reno, gamble and leave without a problem. Most of the people I know, never go in a caisino, pay no attention to them, but are happy they pick up the majority of the Nevada tax burden. This is not an attack, but, when you post, post with intellectual clarity. My guess is that if the hills around Reno gave someone a panic attack, the hills are the least of their problems.

Pros:
1. Hot August Nights - GO!!!! Especially if you are a car enthuasist. Even our kids had fun.
2. Those "HOT" summers are GREAT compared to where I am. Walking around IN the streets (pavement, not grass and trees) in "the heat" of a high temp of 92 w/ zilch humidity and never broke a sweat all day.
3. VERY close to Lake Tahoe - one of my all time favorite places. They treat the lake and the shoreline just like a beach. Do go parisailing on the lake - AWESOME!
4. Skiing. Snow that is. SOOOO many GREAT places to snow ski right at your doorstep.
5. Kayaking - the city just put in several points along the river to put in/out.
6. Traffic - give me these traffic problems ANYDAY over most other cities.
7. History - SOO much history in the area.
8. Automobile Museum - OMYGOSH!!! It is not that large but they have a great collection of cars.
9. Casinos - these casinos attract some great headliners in small arenas for performances.
10. Lake Tahoe - did I say that already - LOVE that place.
Cons:
1. Kind of isolated - but hey w/ all that there is to do around there, who cares and who wants 10's of 1000's of others to be there when your enjoying the nature.
2. Casino's - okay so they can be a problem if they are allowed to. But what city does not have problems of some kind
3. Hot - yes it is hot but if your coming from Alabama, this will be a BREEZE!!! You will laugh when you hear people complain about their "heat wave".

Don't Worry, Jes
I've been looking over a lot of these forums for weeks and they all have one thing in common: each and every one has its village idiot (or idiots) who will try to convince you that the place you are considering moving to is a "dump", a "hellhole", or the worst place in America. And every person who is thinking about a move gets spooked by these miserable people. Don't let them get to you. Visit Reno, think about what you want, and if it fits, make the move. There is no place on earth that is perfect, it all depends on what you want out of life. The losers will whine and pine for somewhere, anywhere else than where they are living, that's just the way they are.

Thanks so much for all your kind words ,we visit Reno next week and I am
EXCITED .
Summers here are like stepping into a sauna ,I look forward to the dry heat.
As we are moving to a much smaller home we sold our Kayaks ,we had not used them since Katrina much due to alligators and debris in the water around here . When you are paying for the move it is amazing what you decide to part with .
We have bought a home in Sierra Canyon , great view from our back patio.

Should have kept the kayaks, Kayaking along Tahoe's east shore in the early morning is a world class experience. Kayaking Pyramid will put you into a place that will seem like another planet. Then, there are many mtn lakes, the delta, the lagoons on the north coast, great sea kayaking country
