BTW I visited the Reno/Tahoe area in 2004 and loved it.

I did enjoy the river walk area although I think they need to expand it, in Milwaukee panhandlers would not be allowed to panhandle all day. I asked the locals where the nightclubs are and nobody could tell me where one was. Bubinga was more of a lounge than a nightclub, but nice. I like mountian biking but I also like a strong nightlife and I know how wierd that must sound with me being from Milwaukee, you don't actually think Milwaukee has a nightlife but since chicago is 30 miles away we have a lot of chicago transplants that have opened very nice nightclubs. Don't worry I'll be back next year and this time I'm taking my golf clubs and renting a car. The homes around lee and court street were nice and the view was cool. Also the workers in the casino weren't exactly a happy bunch any reason for this?

If you love this small city and want to keep it small

And if you truly love this small city and wish it to remain a small city, then send this guy a Thank-You card, as hopefully his appraisal of the city will deter others from moving there.
I just love all the negative appraisals of Las Vegas. I wish there were more and more people would read them and take them seriously. This city has gotten too big, I love it here, the less people moving here the better.
I find it ironic that the defensive locals will climb all over someone like this for criticizing their city, and yet they say they love their city so much the way it is.
These people, uncanninly, can do a real service to your city.
And quite the reverse, you can praise Milwaukee every chance you get, and hope the readers will take the praise seriously, and let them all move there.
Why are people in this forum getting so defensive? Honestly...attacking the OP simply because he/she didn't like your town? Classy. Very classy and mature.
Honestly, some of you people need to grow up. I live in New Orleans -- a city which MANY people hate. And you know what? I respect their opinion. If they come here, and are unhappy, then I hope they find a place that DOES make them happy.
The bottom line is, not everyone will like the same places. We all have different opinions about different things -- living in certain places being one of them.
Just because someone doesn't like your version of utopia, doesn't mean their opinion is any less valid.
Better ski hills would be the understatment of the year based on what I've seen at Alpine Valley.
Nevada tends to have a preponderance of pawn shops due to the havoc the gaming industry wreaks on irresponsible people.
Yes, Californians tend to be obnoxios but with some reason. On the whole, the state is unmatched in terms of its economic prowess and geographic diversity. Unfortunatley, over-population of its larger cities and marxist attitudes of local governments has significantly lowered its quality of life and future economic viability.
Is there a concerted effort to get those marxists voted out of office, there? There's are liberty movements in Wyoming and New Hampshire. I'm wondering if there's any well organized effort to keep Nevada free.
Hello, I have a dream and that dream is to one day retire in Reno, Nevada. I have never been there to really look around and explore the area but through pictures and sites in the internet... it amazes me to see all the mountains, rocks, trees, lakes, etc., and just about everything that nature can give in that part of the world. It is about relaxation and being away from the big city life I have seen and lived in. A peace of mind for the soul. I think it is in Reno, Nevada.

You should see it the way it is now, snow on all the mountains and hills in every direction, its beautiful but a bit of a pain, for me at least as I'm not used to the snow. I guess I will have to learn to adapt if I am going to be moving there soon (to finish college).
What other town is chock full of white trash skank? Double up the jimmy coats, make your way around town in the evenings, and get laid with new women nightly. And I'm not referring to prostitutes.
Here in SoCal, you can spot a Reno girl a mile away.

Great post. To be honest, though, I am one of those many people who hates your city. Haha!
Some bizarre statements here. mmm... Reno, It has a college and a university, people from all over the world come to study there.
It has Malls for those who like malls.
It has great entertainment in many venues.
It has three hospitals with smart and educated employees (as one would hope)
It has a better and better network of bike trails and nearby hiking trails
It has a kayak park in the middle of town, not many cities can boast of that.
It has world class bike shops and world class bicycling.
It has world class skiing less than an hour away.
It has Tahoe and Pyramid Lakes less than an hour away.
The absolute moron who made the skank remark had to have made it about himself as any wander through the university on a bright spring morning, or a visit to the beach at Sand Harbor or a lift line at Mt Rose or beer and brats at Great Basin brewery, or a shopping trip to REI (the poster has never heard of REI or Great Basin Brewery I betcha) would show him to be as wrong as wrong can be.
Oh and

I disagree, these people are unhappy, where they are makes no difference. As far as Reno goes, the tourons generally see downtown, the people that live in Reno seldom go downtown. Downtown Reno is like Disneyland for people who cannot do math.
