Hi there...we are in Sparks and I want to take a road trip to the coast...does anyone have a favorite route that isn't too far? I looked up Half Moon Bay and it is approx. 4.5 hours away...Fort Bragg is 6.5hrs.??? Is there a straight shot that is not so far away that I am missing??

It depends on what you're looking for. If you want more of a swimmable beach town than Santa Cruz is probably what you are looking for. If you are just looking for natural beauty hwy 1 north or south of SF is absolutely beautiful.

I also recommend Santa Cruz--it's beautiful and fun.

Driving distance to the coast from your area is going to be at least 4-5 hours regardless of where you decide to go.

80 to highway 1 and head south to Santa Cruz. Great trip once you get out of SF.

Then take 17 over the hill to San Jose, and 280 to 680 and that will taje you back to 80 in Cordelia to come back home.
