Things to do in Reno/ Sparks
Hello All,
Going to Reno for the weekend on June 19th for me and my wife's 1 year anniversary. We got married at the Tannenbaum off Old Mt. Rose Highway and it was beautiful. We will be staying at the Grand Sierra and were curious what are some good things to do and places to check out besides the usual Casino and tourist stuff. Some nightlife recommendations would also be appreciated as well. I have been to N210 which was little too gangster for me and Divine, which was a good time. I would love to move to Reno, but I have a solid position in a medium sized construction company in Sacramento and I would take a huge risk leaving that position with the economy being what it is. Thanks in advance.

Definitely do the Wine Walk on the 20th (from 2 to 5 p.m.): Reno Riverwalk District
You might also want to check out the Chocolate Bar: The Chocolate Bar Reno, NV - Night Scene, Club, Lounge, Restaurant, Cafe
I've heard mixed things about the Peppermill's new club, Edge, but you might want to give it a shot. There are lots of nice restaurants at Peppermill as well (may be too touristy for your taste): EDGE | Peppermill Reno Hotel Casino - (866) 821-9996
The Rodeo will also be in town and The Legends at Sparks Marina (Shopping Center) is also having their pre-Grand Opening that week if you want to do any shopping (also check out Meadowood Mall and Summit Sierra in Reno if you want to shop)

Other than that, if you will have a car I would recommend taking a drive up to Windy Hill or any other number of places where you can take a hike and view the valley below. The valley really is beautiful when viewed from above. Windy Hill (Audrey Harris Park), Reno, NV : Reviews of Windy Hill (Audrey Harris Park) - Yahoo! Travel

I think the PC term is "ghetto" not "gangster." If you're not into the hip-hoppity scene that's fine. Some hip-hoppity folks are pretty wealthy. What 'ghetto' means is not necessarily hip-hop but just a more casual scene with guys in t-shirts and Reno has white ghetto as much as black or Hispanic ghetto.
If you want an "upscale" night club, then you have the Beach at GSR (formerly Nikki Beach) or Edge at Peppermill. However, since the Edge just opened, there'll be long lines and a $20 cover. Plus, after you get in, unless you buy a table, you have to stand. There are no free seats anywhere except outside in the smoking area patio. You might also want to check out Silver Peak downtown or Imperial which are not night clubs but have night club like crowds. Bubinga closed. No other real night clubs in town sorry.

The gay clubs are fun if you're open to it, but they're pretty small. They're on Kieztke Lane across the Street from one another. Nuetron & Tronix. And don't fret, I know straight people that go to both (assuming of course you are straight).

The Tour de Nez is going on this week. Friday afternoon/evening will be Pro road bike racing, festivities. Even if you're not into cycling, it's very cool to watch. It'll be in downtown Reno, on the river.

The Nugget has Trader Dicks, it can get crowded, but its fun, if you go, you have to try a "Scorpion" downtown also has West 2nd, it get crowded too, mixed scene. But most def do the Wine Walk. To be safe without driving, GSR Beach is good, there is also a bar with a band in a non-smoking area there also.
Be Safe, Have fun! and Congradualtions!

The wine walk was awesome! Hit up a lot of different spots downtown, I had no idea there were so many cool bars and restaurants by the river there. Also hung out at the GSR a lot, went bowling both nights for super cheap. Cowboy bar there was pretty happening since the Rodeo was in town and I did alright at the craps tables. Nikki Beach or "The Beach" was basically dead Friday and Saturday nights, I think they lost or got rid of there Nikki Beach affiliation. Good times overall though, will definitley go back for the wine walk another time. Thanks everyone for the advice.
