Smile Relocating from NH to Reno

Hi there, We will be relocating to Reno from NH either late winter or early spring. I have already read alot of threads in regards to the Reno so I'm going to try and just ask a few questions from the info I've gathered from all the other Reno threads I've read. Here goes....

#1-We don't want to live in downtown Reno. We like living out in more tree and mountainous areas. My husband will be working at either Mt. Rose or Northstar at Tahoe so he'll be heading down either I-395 or I-80. I'll be working in downtown Reno so we're looking to live on the outskirts. So, where are the best areas to get an apartment outside the city and where it's not crazy windy? (I read that the further out of Reno you get the windier it gets. Don't hate the wind but obviously will try and avoid the worst of it if possible). Oh and where is it safe and not ghetto or redneckish?

#2-Are we better off looking into the large apartment complexes that are all over the outer parts of Reno than trying to find an apartment through the paper? We're going to find an apartment for about a year while we search for a house. I looked at a bunch of the complexes on line and most look very very nice. But any website can make their product look nice. They don't show which ones are in a bad area or not really that nice.

#3-How is the traffic from I-80 and I-395 getting into Reno? Badly backed up every morning and evening or not too bad?

Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Hwy 395 is a mess now. They are building a new freeway along side the old hwy 395. Lots of construction and detours which might last another year or two.

You have a problem. If hub is working at Northstar you want to live in the Northwest or Verdi. If he works at Mt Rose the commute from the northwest is a pain, so you want to live in the south part of town, and vice versa. So figure out where he will work, then decide where you will live.

I recomend Northstar as an employer, it is a large company with much room for advancement, and,.,, you want to wind up living in Truckee, not Reno.

Thanks for the info. He will be applying at Northstar because it's a year round resort. We're going to look into the Northwest and Verdi area. We don't want to live in CA. I guess I'll have to do some serious research on apartments in the Northwest because I've heard some very conflicting stories.

The northwest section of Reno (near Boomtown casino) is a nice area and much of it is new - much of it built in the last 10 or 15 years.
