Default Fernley - Tire Chains?

I will be spending a few months in Fernley this winter. I am not used to being in places that get snow. While I have heard that Fernley doesn't get much percipitation, I have read that it does get some. I will only be traveling about 12 miles a day. I have an F350 6x6. That's a 4x4 dually . It weighs 4 tons.

I have looked on the Nevada DOT site but have been unable to determine if the law ever requires chains in and around Fernley. Any insight is appreciated!

Also, we are coming from Oregon. When I looked last night, the back route we wanted to take was closed due to snow drifts. Because of that, we will end up going out of the way to stay on the interstates. Any information about the route coming into Ferleny is also appreciated. Chain requirements, etc.

You have a 4x4? As long as your tires say M&S you will never need chains, in, near, or around Fernley, or I 80, or Reno, although a dually can be scary, the lessor psi on the ground from the extra rear wheels will allow the rig to skate on the ice easier.

Put an engine block in the back, or a load of firewood.

And watch for black ice, while not invisible, it can catch the unaware and put them into the ditch.

Thanks for the info Clarks. When I was pre-purchase researching my tuck, I remember greater the surface area of duallys decreases their performance in the snow. I have to admit when I saw that chains required sign as we were nearing the area on I80, I got a little sinking feeling in my tummy .

However, since we have been here, the weather has been fabulous. I sure hope it stays that way!

Default chains not necessary

if you have a front wheel drive with snow rated tires, or any 4 wheel drive, you'll have no trouble at all. ( a 4 wheel drive is good if you are going over the hill on I 80 to Sacramento when it is snowing.)
i have an acura with all season tires and I have no trouble.
my wife likes the extra security of a a 4 wheel drive , but its not necessary.
just be careful and slow down in the snow, and you'll be fine. good luck.

You don't need chains. I have commuted from Reno to Fallon daily for four years in a front wheel drive car and can count on both hands the amount of times I've been on snow. What little snow we get melts off very quickly and I've never seen controls around Fernley.
