How's the road trip from So. California to Reno via Rt. 395, in early June?

Hate planes, hate change-overs, hate having to get to Airport hours before to accommodate security. Kind of think just jumping in the car early morning and traveling 9-hours is a better deal.

Anything to watch-out for in terms of June weather or road conditions or perils of the 395 from CA to Reno? Is the 395 a typical highway/freeway, or is it a two-lane deal? I know in the high desert around Victorville it is one lane each direction, but I am not familiar with what happens to the road further North.

It is the greatest scenic road in America.
Most of it is two lane.
You won't have weather problems in June
Split the trip and stay somewhere along the way.
Take your fishing pole.

The WORST part of the trip is the drive over the Cajon Pass.

Most of the road is two lane but there are a few places where there are passing lanes. The couple of hours is uninteresting but the ride gets a lot more interesting as you approach Bishop, CA.

While you can drive it all on one day, generally we like to make four or five stops and spread it over two days.

Bishop, Mammoth Lakes, and Lee Vining are good stops for gas or food.

Thank you for the input and the tips. It sounds like a wonderful drive and I may very well split it up into 2-days. Thanks!

Sure, it is nice, at least until you get to Oregon, but, I stand by my statement. It is not a usual thing to drive up a highway with peaks rising 10,000 feet over your head.
