We finally bought a house and agreed to move out of our apartment at the end of the month. However, the landlord said he has a tenant lined up but wants to move in a week and a half before the end of the month.
If it was only 2-3 days before, I'd say no problem But since we're losing an entire week and a half of a paid month, shouldn't we get back a percentage of that paid rent?
Your thoughts....
If the LL wants the place early, then he owes you the time. He cannot collect 2 rents. That's against the law. Tell the LL you want the return of the daily rate for the number of days you will leave early. It's all for the LL's convienience, so he owes.
I wouldn't leave one day let alone a few weeks early if I wasn't getting every day of that rent back. This is pretty simple. If the LL wants you to move out early demand that she refund those days of your rent. If she doesn't agree, don't move out early. And get it in writing.
Absolutely agree with both responses. And if the LL goes along with returning monies to you make sure the money is on the table before you hand over the keys to the unit ...
