Here in nY it costs $1500 for the sherriff to come. There is also at least a 3 month backlog.

They will not arrest you but they can have the court order you to care for the person. This assumes that you have some legal guardanship over the person. If it's just Aunt Ethel who got thrown out of her place, you have no responsibility to take them in and the law wont do nothing but takew them to a homeless shelter. The thing to be careful of is if you ever signed some guradianship papers or accepted financial control, those can mean you are legally asuming control including housing.
