Hello,I'm a 56 year old,and received social security I'm moving to Florida so my daugther can help me,I need to know how an I fine a place were I can rent at lease studio with a very low income.I'm leaving in Colorado with a friend but I need to be close to one of my kids to help me .I don't have no one to take me no where.need some answer to my question and were I can call.

Is Section Eight provided quickly for Senior 61 years of age. SSI source of income. Please help with pertinent information. Thank you.

No, you have to fill out the application, and be on the waiting list like everyone else.

If the Gloucester County housing authority doesn't pan out, the other poster is right about checking other counties. Google each county and New Jersey housing authority. Or "section 8" or "senior housing" or "subsidized housing". It will take some effort.

There are fewer options for "senior housing" because of her age. Some will accept 55+, most want you to be 62.

But, she can qualify based on being disabled.

You just need to search and search to find some place that has an open waiting list.

I know this because I am disabled and 57 and I had to search counties away from the SF Bay Area, where I've been trying to get on any waiting list for subsidized housing for years. I just learned that the waiting list is open in a county 4 hours away, so I put my name on that waiting list and will move there when I am accepted.

The SSI will take a long time to get, too. Mine took several years. You may have to ask Mom to move in with you for awhile :-)
