Are you looking for a roommate in all of NY State forum or just NYC? If it is only NYC then you need to post your question on the NYC forum rather than the NY State forum.

If you're going to be going to college, see if the college has an online source for students looking for roommates.

If you're not sure, you could call the housing office, or google the college name and "off campus housing."

If that's not the case, I'll let someone in NY give you advice.
