Hey, for two years I paid rent and got a receipt. Now supposedly the rules changed, and no receipt is given.
Is this really legal? How do I prove I paid on time.
Thanks

Yes, that just shows that it was paid.
It does not show when it was paid.
Heres my example
I get paid from work on nov 29. I transfer 400 to checking and write the rent check. I date the check for the 29. I pay my rent on the first of the month (due date). But sometimes the clerk holds onto the deposit for a day or two. We are considered late on the third day of the month. This causes trouble the apartment says they know about the problem and that in fact, I do not own money. They have an automatic, late rent system. It generates a delinquent letter and adds late fees to the account. The last ledger printout they sent me says i have made check payments in 2018. but also says I missed 11-2013 rent, my bank has the cancelled check deposited by the apartment on 11-3-13.
The city took away my way to protect myself - a receipt.

if that were true,
could i also just date the check for the 1st of the month and then mail it when ever i wanted, say even the 15 of the month.
Because the check was dated the 1st, would that still be on time? I don't so.

So? It works for 99% of the rest of the tenant world.

That problem goes deeper than the rent payment.
Good luck fixing City Hall.

I doubt its 99 % of the people. If your a renter, its a constant battle to keep them from nickel and dimeing you. There is a fee for everything.
How can they take a way my ability to get a receipt?

You're lucky they ever gave you a receipt in the first place. I never got a receipt at any of the places I rented I would usually drop off my rent a few days early just in case to avoid any problems with due dates and late fees. Helps if you bring cookies to the leasing staff every now and then too.

now your being stupid. so ok if you pay for mail tracking the mail date would also be date paid. it works both ways on bills. so if the post mark is after midnite on the first you are late.

Thanks for the tip.

I wonder if i can do the same thing in my general store. Unless they pay with cash, there will be no reciept given. This will also help slow down returns and exchanges.
