I too wouldn't take it personally. Just be glad that you are month to month and can leave. If you were stuck in a lease, that would be worse.

I agree with others, the LL are perfectly in the right to decline a new dog.

I think you're answering the question originally asked. A new poster added to the thread today with a different scenario.

I was on my phone and didn't notice that. Thanks.

Did you show him your copy of your lease?

If you don't have a copy, it'll be hard to prove he approved the pet. Unless by chance you paid a pet deposit on top of the security deposit. That could be your proof.

I have two dogs that the landlord approved. I pay a rent fee for them every month. Recently asked LL if we could get another dog. I kept asking with no reply from him. So got the dog. Will we be in trouble??

Most likely. Wtitten permission first, new pet later.

When you get evicted for an unauthorized pet, good luck renting elsewhere with 3 dogs.

I don't think your LL has been unreasonable at all. I think they were really nice to let you move in with what you had. If you don't like the situation, it looks like you can move, but good luck finding another place to rent with three cats (plus a possible dog). I've NEVER seen a rental allow more than two pets. I'm sure some do, but they're few and far between.
