if that box of stuff is so valuable why did they leave it behind? do they have an ulterior motive to leave it there? I have read here on the forums where if someone stays in a place for 30 days they do the squatter's rights thing. I hope this is not whats happened with the OP here

Most cities have a landlord/tenant housing commission at City Hall. I'd give them a call and explain your situation and see what they advise.

It might be more efficient to simply call the cops and tell them you're worried that the box might have illegal drugs in it. But be prepared to pay for new doors.

I think i have all the rights to my home already, but she keeps telling me she can get me into trouble with the cops.
I just don't want trouble... That's all. But I'm not quite clear about laws, so i have no idea if she can harm me in anyway.
Are you the property owner?
Or do you rent?
Is this a sub-let situation?
Who's subletting from whom?
Does your land lord allow sub-leases?

If you are renting tenant you can not change the locks. All the advise on the previous 5 pages does not apply.

If you are on the primary lease, move in. Tell her to come get her box.
If you are not on the primary lease, cancel the ulitities and find another place to live.
