Just make sure you have an office space set up, a computer and a desk in a guest room would do. Also make sure you have a sturdy cabinet with a proper secure lock (with a key); and you should pass it.

Thanks.

Does the room need a door lock with key?

My office room is setup in first floor. The doors are french doors type and does not have a lick from outside. I got computer password protected, cabinet has locks and a shredder etc.

I'm not really sure about the lock in the door. I'm sure you can give Rentec a call and they'll be able to advice you better.

I had an inspection done for a different credit reporting agency, but I'm sure it would be similar. I passed it no problem.

I was a resident apartment manager. I kept the files in a filing cabinet in my bedroom. My apt was on the first floor.

The filing cabinet was not a locking one, but I had put a chain across the top drawer with a lock, so I could lock up the tenant files. It was there when the inspector came, so I don't know if it would be required or not. Mine just already had one.

My bedroom had a lock separate from the front door lock. I did this at one point, because I was going to have company staying on my couch, (friend of my daughter who I didn't trust), so I could give the guest a front door key, but he then couldn't get into my bedroom and the files, and apt keys, etc.

Again, I don't know if this would be required or not. I just happened to have done that.

She asked me if I had a shredder and to show it to her. It was no big deal.

Go ahead and call and ask what is required. They just want to be sure you're not some identity thief. Ask for what they require, and do it before they get there, so you don't have to have them come back.

I use a different company, but they required a room set up as an office, A locking file cabinet, and a paper shredder.

The office had to have a lock on the door, and the rest of the house had to have locking doors.

They asked if the computer was password protected.

They wanted a business sign visible on the outside of the building. The inspector accepted a paper sign, printed on my computer and taped into the office window so that it showed to the outside.

Be very aware that you are dealing with people's identities and financial information, so you need to be extremely careful that you are keeping that information secure.

The agency will probably run a credit report and a background check, including criminal background on you, OP, before you are approved.
