You're acting like Bambi in hunting season.
Where on Earth are you getting that idea from? I didn't want to get into the details because this is not my thread to hijack but no, it is taking advantage of someone when they don't know enough about their rights to realize what you're doing is illegal. Like I said, it was a huge mess of a situation that could have been avoided had I known my rights as a tenant. I've spoken to an attorney and it was decided it wasn't worth the effort to pursue any legal action unless I wanted to do it just for the principle of the matter and to me, it wasn't/isn't worth the headache.

ETA: And I don't appreciate your passive aggressive remarks about my intelligence. I'm not even sure why you felt the need to turn on your snark switch.

Brand new LL testing out his newbie knowledge and feeling compelled to comment on every thread. This too shall pass with time.

The eviction was dismissed but it's still on my record. :/ But yes, I had one hell of time finding someone to rent to me because of it. Even had to have a co-signer for years. But I'm probably the exception to the rule if I had to guess.
That's the problem these days. Too many of these big name companies (and even smaller landlords) will automatically deny for any eviction, period...even if you won. This is exceptionally unethical, and on somewhat shaky legal ground as well. Thankfully, any eviction filing that is dismissed or with judgment rendered for the tenant is fairly easy to seal, removing it from public records and allowing you to disclose it. That takes money and time though, how much of each depending on if you have the ability and willingness to do it pro se.

Some jurisdictions in more liberal areas have already implemented or currently implementing laws that make it illegal for a landlord to deny a tenant for an eviction filing unless the eviction actually happened. Oregon's law with this provision went into effect this year and work is in the very preliminary stages to get similar legislation passed in the Tampa Bay area.
