Hello,
I'm 25 and just moved into an apartment with my family (Mom, Dad, younger brother and dog). We've been here for just over a month now and my mom has been having verbal harassment issues from another tenant. Upon leaving the building, walking to her car in the parking lot, there has been a resident calling her foul names (as I don't know the policy of this forum on swear words, I will refrain from saying the exact names shes being called). There are at least three incidents that I'm aware of. We have reported this to the building manager, and it has happened once since being reported.
It is my understanding, based on reading a small excerpt from this page (MN Department of Human Rights : Housing Discrimination FAQ) that, "If a tenant is being harassed by one or more other tenants—if racial slurs, sexual harassment, or other discriminatory behavior is occurring—the landlord also has an obligation to try to stop the behavior if the landlord knows of the harassment."
Now, what is the correct course of action to take should this continue to happen? I'm at a loss, and the above excerpt is the only information I can seem to find on the subject, though admittedly, I haven't delved too deeply into scouring the internet for the subject.
What response did you receive from the property manager and did you report it to him/her when it happened again?
