I have been over working at my rental in Nampa. We have 4 homes in which there are 2 seprate driveways. Both are shared driveways. There are small children playing and small dogs that plays with them. There is a sign posted "SPEED LIMIT 1 MPG OR GET BAN" the people who live in the back their family, friends, themselves find the need to go very fast down that driveway in and out all the time. I yell at them all the time about slowing down. Neighbors do too. They said your funny there is no 1 mph. I tell them yes there is it is called Idol down the drive way. I do it all the time. They told me you are a crazy lunatic. The other tenants have told them to slow even yelled it when they leave or come in. To get told to F off or flips them the bird.

Can NPD site them for speeding down the driveway if the keep it up. We are all afraid that one of the kids or small dogs may get hit by them and their neglect! What can be done about this? Thank you!

Are these shared driveways on private property? If yes, I doubt law enforcement will enforce speeding on private property.

The first step to maintaining safety of children and pets is to clear them away from any roadway when a motorized vehicle is passing.

The second step, if it was a condominium, apartment or townhouse community, is to consult the homeowners association about speeding concerns. They fall under jurisdiction of local law enforcement agencies, and they usually start taking action here for patrolling if requested.

It would not hurt to check with your local law enforcement agency to see what code of law they would be able to enforce.

1 MPH is a bit unreasonable. Consider that the average person walks at an easy pace of 3 MPH. A sign of 10 MPH is more realistic, and under that, have a sign that says "children at play".

Do these rental units belong to you? Your text is a little confusing. The absolute best way to get people to slow down is to install speed bumps in the driveway. People will either have to slow down, or visit the repair shop often.

^what volosong said. 1 mph is entirely unreasonable. 10 is what the communities here do. And like said, if you own it, install speed bumps and problem is solved.

We dealt with that issue frequently in law enforcement. Since it is private property, there is nothing the police can do about it. If you own the driveway, then you can put in a couple pretty massive speed bumps. If you do not own the driveway then the people in the front house simply need to keep their kids/pets clear of that area. ANY speed limit sign you put up is unenforceable.

Is this the same neighbor with the dog that barks too much ? Sounds like you and this neighbor might have a bigger issue going on.

1 mph is a completely unreasonable speed expectation, even for an area with kids and dogs around. Asking people to idle down a driveway is silly; no wonder people think you are a lunatic.

The sign you describe sounds ridiculous as well. If you feel 1 mph is reasonable, I question the actual speed these drivers are moving and if they are really behaving recklessly. Do you think 5 or 10 is too fast? If so, you'll have a hard time getting anyone to change.

Your expectations are not realistic. Concentrate on teaching children safety around cars, keep pets leashed, inquire about a better-worded sign, and perhaps look into the possibility of speed bumps.

Children and pets should not be playing where there is traffic. period. Since the driveway is shared there is no way you are going to control the neighbors. I'm sure they would never dream of hurting a child on purpose but it's obvious that your tactics have done nothing but enrage them. Keep the kids and dogs in their own yard.

We deal with this here as well.

There are dog owners who think it's perfectly acceptable to walk their dogs right down the middle of the parking lot and get ticked when you honk for them to move. It's usually the ones on those retractable leashes with disobedient dogs so it takes them some time to get control of their pet. It's an accident waiting to happen.

There are parents who sit on the stairs (on their cellphones) and let their little kids right their bikes and roller blades in the parking lot as well and get snippy when you say something about keeping the kids off the 'roadway'. They seem to think the parking lot is a playground. smh. These kids play in and around the parked cars and dart out into the parking lot. scary.

Period? Nonsense.

Of course kids (and dogs) should be able to be there too.
The issue here is the 'heads up" ...and occasional warning shout of "Car!"
