$4500/mo without utilities for a four bedroom 2100 sq ft house in South Orange County that needs to be updated but has a huge yard and pool. I cry every month when we sent the check because I feel like I'm being ripped off. Will start searching soon for another rental. I think I can find a nicer one for at least $1K less.

OUCH!

Mortgage $900. 3b/2b (little over 1700sq.ft) on 1/2 acre in Cali. (and not in the desert).
We're looking to move so we can buy outright and have no mortgage. Our mortgage is our only "debt".

Rent $1079 for 2BR/2B with detached private garage. Just short of 1200 SF inside plus patio. Includes no utilities. Building is fairly new (within the last 3-4 years) low rise (3 stories) in typical desert stucco in typical desert colors. Phoenix, Arizona.

I just moved from Cleveland, Ohio. Rented 1200 SF 2 story townhouse, 2BR/1.5B with detached shared garage. Includes no utilities. Building was brand new when I moved in--->in 1999, and they definitely did not do any major upkeep by the time I left in August 2007 and it was beginning to show. $900.

That is daylight robbery. My friend rents out his nice 3 bedroom townhome with 2 car garage in Woodbridge (Irvine), 1850sqft for $1950/month. What you are paying is ridiculous! At most you should be paying $2700/mo. Check on craigslist.

$2,000/mo. (plus utilities) for a 1,100sf apartment in Tustin, by the market place. We are moving out the end of January and moving out of state. We've had it with these ridiculous prices and taxes here in California. I'm glad I don't have a mortgage and kids. Don't know if I could sleep at night.

$1300 for a 2 bed/2.5 bath condo with parking (it's a big deal trust me) and laundry in the garage area. East Long Beach (really nice area). Too bad it's not my cup of tea because i'm going to miss this lovely rent. We found it on craigslist listed in the wrong county so nobody had even looked at it (for all of you CA people who need a hint to cheaper rentals.) :-)
