Default Is East Flatbush "safe" enough for my wife and I?

Hello folks, I need some advice please. I am a 25 yr old black male and my wife is black too. We saw an apartment right off Cortelyou rd and east 23rd street and we like it, its just that we saw the apartment a couple of days ago when it was freezing outside so it was difficult to get a good feel for the neighborhood. Could someone familiar with the area give my a general idea of how safe this area could be please, thanks.

All depends on what one consider safe. I don't like the area as a black single woman. I don't forsee any problems with one living there; it's a matter of comfort. Neighborhood is changing slowly and will totally gentrified in the next 5 years. Drugs and hanging out is a big problem. Please drive by after 8 pm and slowly take in the neighborhood. Everyone see things differently and one may like it. I could tell you that the apartments are very large and have high ceilings, but blocks tend to be dark. Also, go online to see the crime for the zipcode and preceint. If you see a cop, ask them, they will give you the inside information.

Flatbrush where? You will get a better response if you post in the right state / metro area forum.

Good luck
