My lease is expiring in two months and I got a notice to inform me of my options. I can sign a new 12 month lease at my current rate or a 6 month lease for a little more.
I notice the property company's website is offering the same units in my building for $30 less than my current 12 month rate.
The $30 is nothing that would make or break me, but it would be nice to have enough money for a pizza or two every month. Has anyone ever asked, and been successful at getting the lower advertised rate?
You can ask. However, the lower rate is obviously not your unit, so it might be a unit that has a few quirks. Maybe it overlooks the dumpsters or maybe it has a noisy neighbor. Maybe it is a move-in special, which you don't get because you are not moving in.
But feel free to take a copy of the ad into the landlord's office and politely inquire if you might have the lower price, too. Whether or not they agree is going to depend upon how trouble-free you are as a tenant.
