Me: Great. May I ask really quick what your FICO is?
Them: Oh, I never give that sensitive information out.
Me: Well, can you at least tell me your occupation is and your salary?
Them: I can't give that out either, not until I've seen the house.
Me, Well, that's problematic because I've driven over there numerous times and shown it just to have people say "I love it. My FICO is 350 and I'm a self-employed shopper to the stars. My salary fluctuates of course but it generally ranges in good months up to 5K a month." I live quite a ways from the house. I'm just trying to save both of us a lot of time and gas.
Them: I'm sorry, I just can't give that info out, not without seeing the house. I hope you understand.


Bear in mind I don't know this individual from Adam; he's just a voice on the phone and he's trying to protect "sensitive information"! !

So I hope this helps to get the OP back on track, but I have my doubts. Someone always seems to find fault with some little point I make in every response.

If that's the way you state it there isn't anything wrong with that. I would kill the bold section response.
Simply say thank you for your interest have a great day.

Like I said it doesn't matter what their credit score or income is once it's past your requirements. Simply ask if they can meet your requirement. I don't care what my applicants score is or how much more they make above my minimum requirements. I simply tell them my requirements and can they meet them. You're too hung up on credit score income and occupation. It's not that important initially upon meeting because You're going to find that out regardless when they fill out aplications. If they want to go ahead and blow 40 bucks and can't meet requirements that's their problem.
You really need to set up multiple showings in one day. this way you're not wasting time. I usually do 1 hour between showings and set Saturday's for a full day and Sunday by appointment only. During the week it's evenings.

Why is a SS number required?

We have plenty of Indian born engineers making great money in NJ.

If they are in the US legally with a valid legal work permit, they have a social security number. Many can apply for a SSAN at the same time they are applying for the work visa in their home country. The fact that many landlords don't ask them for the number is due more to not knowing they have a SSAN and not that the immigrants dont have one.

I completely agree. But for younger people, it's much easier to rent. Also, in some cities, you cannot find a decent house to buy under $400,000.

Personally, I will never pay over $1200/mo for any rental because for that price, I can get a decent house with tax and insurance included.

One of our building is in 90077. Take a look and tell me the average rental price for a 1 bedroom apartment and the lowest cost for a home.

hmmm,, Indian born engineers working in the US all have SS #s. just like anyone working legally in America

Where I'll be moving to in the next couple months (Charleston, SC), $1100 is the norm for a studio in the really nice part of town. I get that certain places are expensive but ugh. Until I'm able, I'm going to have to rent in that area and it's going to make me sick knowing I'm throwing that kind of money down the drain. For a state where the average home price is $138k, it makes you do a double take when you see prices for the nicest part of Charleston (Mount Pleasant) are around $300-400k. Then again, there's a reason why the city was voted the #1 best in the world by T&L, so of course a price tag comes with it.
