Katie
a landlord I had years ago did this. They owed me $2400 for security, the house was perfect but they said the burner on the stove was broken and it cost over $100 to fix it.

I had to take them to court to get the money and in the end we had to settle for paying the $100 in order to get the rest back.

It stinks dosnt it.

Walk-through. Both before and after, in the presence of the landlord. I don't know why anyone would take a pass on the walk-through.

The End...Well all said & done. They did not get the old apt settled until yesterday! On the 3rd I paid my part of the rent.... On the 15th when I was to get final bill on the old apt landlord out of town!! Finally got the bill settled yesterday! Turns out I owed $1 over the security deposit on the old place & until I took in the $1 Sec 8 had not paid Aprils rent!! Well I paid the $1 now Aprils rent is paid EXCEPT now new landlord wants me to pay late fee...they are adding it to Mays rent!!
