Wife and I are on the fence, tempted few times, to leave the sliding door open at night while we sleep. The AC is great and all but we get an awesome cool breeze during night we keep the door open till we go to bed. We leave it open all the time when home during the day.
Think it be unsafe to leave it open at night and just asking forbtrouble?
Thoughts?

I currently live in a shared house of 6, single level house with basement. My room door is unlocked although there is a knob lock, which can be easily defeated.
I also keep my window open (guy smells). Window is 10 ft off of ground.
Our condo where my wife lives, is on the 3rd floor. We leave both balcony sliders open at night.
Depends. I would at least put a slider stop in the tracks so that the slider can open no more than 6 inches.

How can anyone possibly answer this? Are you on a third floor? ground floor? High rise? Your neighborhood? Access to the house from a fenced yard? What? Do you have a 90 noisy dog? An attack cat? Screaming geese? Outdoor lighting on motion sensors? Get a stop block or sliding lock for the door track and set it narrow enough that someone won't be able to get through without making a noisy commotion that wakes you up. You can cut a 2x4 to the length you need and lay it in the door track. Simple.
Around here the bigger threats are hordes of hungry mosquitoes and curious bears, not invading people. Thieves of a very different sort!
How can you know? I live on the first floor and have side sliding windows in the bedrooms and leave them open at night when it is nice, but there is a huge shrub in front. If someone really wants to climb into the shrub to get into my apartment, they can have at it. My patio is fenced in and they’d have to basically climb in (it’s right by the main entry), so again- they can have at it since it’s fairly well lit.
Totally depends. My apartment is inaccessible unless you're Spider Man, so i don't worry about it. Plus I have a dog.
You could put in some kind of security system. Even those laser light window/door units, etc., where they set off an alarm if the laser beam is broken, could give you security. You should be able to figure something out.
