Looking to rent with a heart of AliceT in the kcmo area. We are an older couple, (decorated veteran 62, former special education teacher 52) who enjoy the quiet and keeping up our home. Looking for a landlord who will work with us. NO background check; however, good standing in rental payments for last 7 years. Non violent, no drug, no crime against humanity offense. One time offender in the process of being expunged 2015.
Do you have a question or are you just looking for a place to rent? If you are only trying to find someone to rent to you or a place to rent, this is not the place to do so.

They are looking for a place to rent. They want a landlord that doesn't do background checks..they started a thread already.
I was curious as to why 'no background' check, but this post answers it.
Amysteve: I suggest you start looking on Craigslist. This is not the place to find available rentals.
I am married to an ex felon he is 40 now and his charge happened when he was 18. He had sex with a 16 year old. We have been married for 8 years now and we are looking to move out of my family home . But are having a hard time with him having a recorded can they hold it against us everything for then house loan and all seen in my name . Help I need advice
When criminals have been in prison, they're riskier regardless of their crime. Prison is crime university. Even if they never committed a serious crime before, they're more likely to in the future, just because they've been in prison. For that reason, I would never rent to anyone who has ever been in prison for any reason. If an 18 year old had sex with a 16 year old, I don't consider that to be a significant crime, and would never reject anyone just for that. But if they went to prison for it, I would reject them for having been in prison. It's not fair to them of course, but fairness is not the issue. I would reject anyone who had a chronic contagious disease, such as leprosy, which is equally unfair.

I don't have any good answers for you but I can give you some background from a landlord's point of view. While you may feel the likelihood of your husband committing a sex crime against a minor is as infinitesimally small as someone with no record committing the same crime, and it very well may be, the difference is I, as the landlord, may be sued if I knowingly rented to a sex offender. Whether it is a valid case or not is not even the issue, I just would not want to go through it. I do have a responsibility to my other tenants.
Your best bet is to
Get the record expunged or reduced. I don't think that crime should have been a felony unless there was a extenuating circumstance. But after this long, maybe it can be reduced somehow. This is ridiculous
Find a landlord that doesn't do background checks. They are usually in the lower end apartments.
Sex offenders are in a different category but I am here to tell you the reason the recurrence of crime and violence is so high is due to the fact that so many are denied work and housing. My son was car jacked, he beat the crap out of the guy who car jacked him and was arrested for felony assault. He was sentenced to 8 years in prison. He had never been in trouble and has not been in trouble since he has been home (5 years now) and he still gets denied a decent place to live. And since those of you who do feel the way you do continue to perpetuate discrimination, you should consider this. Felons walk with you, ride the bus with you, serve you food in resteraunts and are living right under your noses and don't bother anyone. They are rehabbed those who need it and when they get out they just want to move forward. If society does not allow them to make a living and rent a place to live, who do you think they will get it from.. You can blame yourself for repeat crime
Hi my name is Gabriel and I would first like to say thank you for understanding. Right now I am looking for a place to live. And in case if you were wondering. yes I am a Felon. I was convicted of sexual assault. No matter what everyone else says I have changed. Ever since I was let off probation I have kept multiple jobs, of course I went through the treatment program, and gone to church and become a very strong believer in God and everyone in my church knows and they have taken that leap of faith and gave me a second chance. Right now though I wish that the housing industry was just as forgiving. I can not find a place to rent that does not require a background check. I have sincerely changed. I hold no grudges against anyone in the realm of my relationship with the justice system. Instead I thank them for doing their job and getting me the help and punishment I desperately needed to move on with my life and become the strong willed and hard working person that I am. I do not desire to do what I have done ever again! Not only because it has ruined my life, but because I know of how much it affects every single person around me directly and indirectly. With all that being said I hope to hear from you soon. And I hope you can be one more person in the world who can be understanding and give me a second chance. If there is one thing I could ask for in a second chance it would be to help me find a place to rent. I have a good job I just need a place that I can finally call my own.

I am doing a paper on renting apartments to people who has a criminal record. I am doing a poll on do you think its right to discriminate those who has done their time. Their working hard everyday on a job but can't get an apartment beccause they have a felony record. Please give me your opinion on this topic.
I wouldn't do it. However, I read an article about a woman who owns a trailer park just for pedophiles. She says she never has trouble with them because they are monitored so actively, and she doesn't allow kids in the park for that reason, which really cuts down on the damage. I have to say it makes an interesting sort of sense.

Leprosy isn't contagious in that way.
Secondly, people with illnesses are protected by the ADA so you better watch yourself if you think you can deny someone for a medical condition.
