We live in the bottom apartment with two apartments above us. When we moved here, the apartments were brand new and only one section (18 apartments) were ready to occupy. Unfortunate for us, we didn't ask Management if these were going to be "family" (any age bracket) apartments. We didn't want to live somewhere where there were elementary/high school age kids living (our choice). Anyway, for first four months no one occupied either of the apartments above us, which meant no noise and that was totally fine with us (we have no kids and are in our early 60's). Then, a guy moved into the top apartment and turns out that he has two elementary age kids that visit him. One night we could hear "pounding" coming from upstairs, while we were in our apartment watching TV......yes, it was that loud. Sounded like a WWF Match going on. Went upstairs to talk to them, but the kids wouldn't answer the door (apparently dad wasn't home).
Management sent him (the dad) a letter that he basically ignored.

Then, a lady moved into the apartment right above us.....with a 18 month old. This child loves to run across the floor (sometimes falling), loves to look out the kitchen window and kick the wall under the window and sits in a small chair and stomp her feet on the floor!! Doing all of this with either the grandma or mother right there in the apartment. We talked to the grandma with no response other than to say "to bad". Then, when the father of the child stops by, he walks across the floor with Work Boots on!! We talked to Management and they said "These are family apartments and you will have to put up with some noise".
Any suggestions. We do like kids, but this noise is just "something else"!!
They totally act like "We don't care how loud we are and Management isn't going to bother us......so "pi__ off"!!
Please Note: due to my hip replacement, I can only live on the bottom floor of any apartment.
Although I think that there should be no loud noise after a certain time at night, but normal noises from kids during the day should be expected. Kids will be kids, and they love to play. Do you honestly expect them to just sit there all day. No disrespect, but if my kids were playing during the day, and you came upstairs with that attitude, I would tell you to p**s off too.

I agree with you. I am a teacher and don't expect my students to be 100% quiet all day long. I want to see them playing and running off their energy at recess. If I don't, I usually expect that they are sick. You can't expect kids to be quiet all day long especially a very young child because they do have energy and they do NEED to play.

Then you can take the kids to the playground and let them play where its appropriate. When you are in close living quarters, then its not appropriate to everyday all day allow your kids to play and run around like maniacs. It affects other people. How would you like it if I played porn at full volume all day??? Yes, I have that right to but is it appropriate??? NO!!!! It's called respect and a lot of people simply do not have it period. It's called not being raised correctly.
IF you want to allow your kids to play all day or whatever, rent a house. And even then, there needs to be respect to your neighbors.

Common sense Himain some people have no clue, I have 2 high energy boys and I let them play, but I also watch and control their noise levels. When I can I take them to the playground, and when they are in the house playing I control their noise, some people feel they can let their kids ride bikes against walls and throw balls in the house, if you live in a house or apt with solid walls then maybe that's ok, but people know that these apts are cheap why not show a little respect to others that's not hard. Someone next door may be very sick or tired, a little quiet may help in recovery. I'm not saying a children have to be mutes but some people don't watch their children at all!!! I've seen children in complexes breaking tree branches down, jumping on electrical boxes, and playing in dangerous areas where are the parents???? These are the same people who you see on channel 5 news screaming my child is missing or worse!

Ha! No problem - base for baseball, bass for music...

...unless you're talking about fishing in which case it's bass but that's another topic.

And on days it's raining, cold, snowing depending on where you live..what then???
believe it or not single people or childless couples have far more options on where they can live versus someone with kids, there are "adults only" complexes but I've yet to see one where having kids is a condition of renting..

The Parents or Guardians should control their children and pets!!!!!!!!

It doesn't matter if you live in an apartment or house, children breaking things, running around without supervision making noise, or dogs unleased, leaving their calling-cards all over property isn't a pleasant experience.

You make it sound like it's acceptable for these things to happen, and then you tell people to find somewhere else to live if they don't like certain things.

The level of class is low when people allow their little bundles of joy ----- pets or children to do anything that comes naturally without any bounds. If more people simply had respect and set guidelines there probably wouldn't be so many complaints.

I don't understand your reasoning, miamiman.
