The apartment (condo) my sister rents in Coral Springs, Fl went into foreclosure and she was notified by the state along with the landlord. The landlord went into default 1 month before he rented to her.
She calls periodically to check the status of the foreclosure and to this date the LL has yet to pay.
The mortgage company told her she would be given a 30 day notice once the foreclosure was final.
And the landlord has yet to return any of her calls and he owns 2 other condo's in the complex she found out that are also in foreclosure.

Until recently, the majority of Foreclosure Proceedings didn't result in Foreclosure.

There is a service that can be subscribed to that will notify you of any filings against a property...

I don't know how many tenants would be willing to subscribe.

When you are always fretting about next month's rent - not to mention what happens at the end of your lease - you're probably not gonna shell out money to subscribe.

Thanks to Marco Rubio, landlords in Florida can charge two months' rent for breaking a lease. Seems only fair that renters in foreclosure should be paid two months' rent.

Given this thread is many years old and people will not even see your post, you should make a separate one.

Much will depend on if you have a lease or not and of course the rules in California, which I don't know. There is a link at the top to various state laws.
