Wow, way to get belligerent with people who are trying to help you.

Sounds like your mind is made up, so don't mind us; go ahead and skip out on your last month's rent and see what happens.

Why must I adhere to paying the last month's rent when the landlord can come up with any excuse she wants to say that she had to clean/repair items in the apt after I leave and then not give me my deposit back?

I don't think that is being belligerent; I'm trying to find out what rights I have as a tenant and why the LL will be able to keep my deposit if she so desires, but I, knowing what she will probably do, have to pay the last month's rent and then also lose my deposit? How can this be a fair contractual arrangement?

I want to take pre-emptive action, not be belligerent. Sorry I sound like that, but $950 is a lot of money to me to lose for no reason, and I'm pretty certain I'll lose that deposit....even though the apt will be sparkling clean.

So take preemptive action. Sounds like you planned to before you ever asked us, so just go do it.
