Default How to find a good apartment on the westside?!?!

I'm looking for a website with good listings for west l.a. and the southbay. I've been using craigslist but it seems the same tired listings keep popping up and westsiderentals requires a fee so i'm wondering if anyone knows of a better place for listings or a better way to search for rentals. Looking for a quiet and safe community near LAX that won't break the bank. Thanks,

When we moved to LA we ended up having to use westside rentals. We couldn't find anything any other way. It seems that a lot of the private landlords use it. We ended up renting a nice condo in the Culver City area that we never would have known about without it. Good luck.

Where I live (San Diego) landlords in some communities do it the old-fashioned way--by posting signs. Not sure if this is true for that area, but if you're close (or know someone who is) you could drive through the areas you're interested in and see if there are any signs posted. You might also try posting a "rental wanted" ad on craigslist--I've gotten some good responses this way. Third option could be to contact a realtor office in the area--sometimes they have rental listings (lots of time their own agents' properties) and I haven't know them to charge a finders fee. On the otherhand, it may be "standard" for that area to pay a broker fee when finding an apartment--that was true for my sister in NYC. Good luck!
