My second daughter moved into an apartment in Austin when she was a junior at UT. All she had was a work study job. My husband co-signed for her and it was done via a combination of email/fax without problem.

Perhaps you can move into a extended stay hotel at first until you land a job?

High percentage college resident towns, cosigners
done via fax could be more acceptable, in general though,
its not.

i might either sublet from someone (cheaper than extended stay), or just plan to live in the area for good. not sure yet.

Subleting is a great alternative to leases, with a verbal
agreement , that means no lease involved, 30 day notice
is all you need to leave.

The one thing I will suggest, is were ever you end up, make
sure to get a copy of the Landlord tenants code book for the
state, become familir with those laws, it could save you alot
of problems down the road.

Best of luck on your journey.

When my roommate wasn't able to be on site he just had to sign with a notary public present and the notary signed as a witness. But that was for an apt complex.
