My boyfriend lease states it is for the tenant plus one occupant. Should he inform the management company that I am the one occupant?

Is there a place on the lease for your name then yes other then that no

Does he have a dog or cat? Are you sure your the "other" occupant? If the lease does not require a name, don't bother.

If the "one occupant" is of legal age, (18 or older), then the landlord may need to know who you are, so you can sign the lease. Minors can't be made to enter into any contract, including leases, but will usually be listed on the lease as an occupant. If you're over 18, then you probably need to sign the lease, and it's in the interest of the landlord to have your signature, as well.
