The heat comes on in my building when it gets to about 50 degrees outside.
Which leaves it way too toasty in here if the radiators are on. I turned on my AC just to see what the temp was and it was in the high 80's. But here are some strange probs I am havingthese radiators are hot water with return run, not steam)

- Even though there is a new valve, the one wont fully shut off once it has had hot water run through it.

- If they are on and I shut one off it makes this annoying diddle diddle noise and hisses. But if I shut it off before the heat kicks on, this does not happen. Is this just the unit cooling down?

- they do bang when the first come on if they went cold. I looked that up and its pipes expanding and rubbing. Should I tell the LL so they can put in those bumper things to hold the pipe still to avoid damage?

These radiators are about 100 years old.
Any tips to finding the proper adjustment for temp?
I feel like a nut getting up and adjusting these things all the time. And that diddle hiss annoys the crap out of me.

Ok well I have left the hisser off all day...

Now its only hissing (sounds like water trying to go through pipes) but the diddle is gone...
Hissing is quieter and less frequent too.

Usually I just open it back up and let the water run through a minute and shut it off again but today I wanted to let it go (off position) to see if it would stop with the diddle hiss.

BTW I would guess its not only my apt as the girl upstairs was running her air during these 45 degree days.

Hissing has ceased....

The one that was "closed" is still hot. But the closed hisser is cooler.

p.s. the "closed" non hisser that is hot right now has gone cool before if I have it off before the heat kicks on.

Whatever you do...DO NOT EVER EVER EVER remove the valves when the radiators are even luke warm, because steam will shoot, and Lord, I mean shoot out of the pipes like no ones business.... plus it is steam and hot as, well you know.
Trust me on this one. NEVER EVER EVER do that.....
