Fix the owners car? might work!

The LL could also have had a complaint from the homeowner's association, if there is one. Could be a clause about not allowing what you are doing, and the LL doesn't want to get fined.

Do you have any idea how cheap it is to replace a keyboard?

It happend once before and all I needed to do was take it apart to give it a good cleaning and presto... good as new

It's kind of like a personal challenge... when something goes hay-wire.

My first car was a Model A Ford and I still have it... keeping it going gave me lots of practice fixing things.

Did I mention I still have my Apple //e

No....thats why I WILL neva, evah rent someone's "room in their house" again. They are nice the 1st couple of months, then after a few months the bastards turn into full blown prison security guards. Can't have friends over, cant park here, cant park there, blah blah blah, well I'm paying the ****ing rent here!

I know its the OP's option at the moment, and sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

If I wanted to be a smart mouth *****, I'd say,

"well how about we take off x amount from the rent to cover my maintenance bills. Afterall, I rented your place with a driveway so I could save money and work on my own car. If I can't do that, lower my rent."

Wishing you luck in the future where rentals, legalese in all areas and basic growing up issues are concerned. Cheers, seasons greetings and happy new year!
