When moving from out of state is it reasonable to ask and expect the keys to be mailed to you? The reason I ask is we are moving 1,800 miles away but will not be arriving until very late.

I'm assuming you have paid all deposits? If so and the paperwork is all in order it seems reasonable to me.
I would not bother with the resistered. The keys will not be marked with an address so just getting the keys regular mail will be fine. It's not unusual to mail keys to an out of state new tenant who has all the lease and deposits in order.
When we bought our house the keys were mailed to us as we did the walk-through but the closing docs weren't ready and we had to get back to the other house for that closing. So we did the closing by Fed Ex and then the keys were mailed to us--also by Fed Ex.
90% of our rentals have garage door keypads, so rather than mail the keys, I would leave the keys in the house and give you the garage door code.
If it were for one of our rentals that doesn't have a keypad, and everything was signed and paid in full, we would agree to mail A key, with the rest of the keys left at the house. No need to weigh down the envelope for no reason.
