The last apartment I rented was fine - not *wonderful,* but an overall positive experience - and only has 60% on apartmentratings.com.
I do read the site whenever I'm looking for an apartment, though, and I do take it seriously. I have reviewed every single apartment I've ever lived in, even the ones I loved, so I think it is folly to assume that only disgruntled crazy folks write these reviews.
That said, there ARE disgruntled crazy folks on that site, no doubt. So like other people said, I do my best to weed those out. Along with the impossibly cheerful comments that were probably written by the apartment management staff. And all the reviews I have left over are the ones I take to heart.
If something is mentioned over and over again by different reviewers, I take it seriously. Especially when it comes to roaches and rodents, or safety. I disregard when people say that management staff is rude (I never deal with them except to sign the lease, anyway) or that some feature particular to their individual apartment wasn't up to snuff.
I was wondering if anyone here has ever had a good experience with an apartment complex that gets very bad reviews on apartmentratings.com.
That site scares me to rent almost anywhere.
I'm glad I am not the only one who feels this way! I know that in general with customer feedback people only post either really, really good ratings or bad ratings from the petty to the "Holy Mary mother of God!" level, but that doesn't make me any happier or more confident when I read the reviews
