Default Paid off eviction

About two years ago I lost my job and got behind on my rent. I now have a certified letter from the lofts saying that my eviction has been paid off and I am in the process of saving for my next place. I just want to know what my chances are of NOT living in the ghetto!

Oh and if my chances are slim, is there a possibility I can hire a lawyer to get it removed from any records? I am not trying to cheat my circumstance, I'd just like to live in a decent appartment.

You have a letter certifying that you did pay it off, that's very helpful. It shows that you were evicted due to your circumstances but that you have the good character to pay back what you owed. Many landlords refuse to rent to anyone with an eviction but with that letter I'd bet that you can find someone willing to give you a chance although I'd expect to pay a higher than normal deposit. Remember what you have learned - choose an apartment with a rent that you can comfortably afford and still be able to set aside money in savings so that in the future if you have a financial crisis you will still be able to pay your rent. Good luck.

Do you have to report an eviction if it was more than 10 years? It's paid and off my credit report. I've NEVER had an issue renting an apartment, but I'm tired of checking the "yes" box for evictions and then spending the next week getting the apartment complex from my college years to fax over the information.

Annoying to say the least.

The fact that the LL had to go through the eviction process says something about character too, the other direction. Did you (the OP) pay the amount back voluntarily, or through garnishment? That makes a difference if we are talking about character.

You are more likely to find an individual willing to rent to you with a large deposit than a large company. The large companies are mostly going to tell you no. 2 years is really recent to have an eviction on record, whether the balance was paid off or not.

Thank you tilli. When I have the savings to rent again comfortably I plan to. Having to find an individual is a little discouraging considering nearly all of the places within the area seem to be owned by a corpoation but I guess its about looking. It was DEFINATELY willing (garnishment was not an option in my case.)
