I live in South FL also and this is pretty much what I've seen as far as average prices for a 2 bedroom apartment....

I am reading through this thread and I honestly can't believe how cheap some 2 bedroom apartments are across the country. $600??? $800?? Wow...And people like to say Florida is cheap! lol

My last apartment was a 2 bed/2 bath and I paid $775. I'm now in a 1 bed/1 bath and pay $750.

I'm not going into specifics but our apartment is in a no nothing town in a nothing area nearly 3 hours from a major city! We pay over 1,000 a month for this and it's a joke (not including utlities).

Housing prices are SUCH a scam in the northeast/metro areas.. Considering where we live, the lack of jobs and the amount they pay if you do get a regular, non educational/medical job these apts. should be @800 a month max. But they can get higher rents thanks to desperate students and medical personnel.

Here in CT, it varies widely... a 2/1 with no amenities in a 3-family house might only run you $600-800, but in a nice complex with lots of extras... $1000-1400, maybe?

In southwest Florida, there are some houses for rent in the $700 range with 2 bedrooms. These have yards, but in general, no pools. Apartment complexes with pools are around the same, or sometimes a bit more.

The west coast of FL (barring the major cities like Sarasota and Tampa) is much cheaper than the east coast, ime.

Ok- this is changing in two months. Our new apt will be 1500/mth not including utilities and does not have any of the amenities of our current place

. We are moving out of state for a job relocation

I pay $1400 for a two-bedroom in a two-family house at the Jersey shore. I'm still within a (long) commuting distance of Manhattan. The town is on the train line.

We used to rent a 2 bed, 2 bath condo in Philadelphia for $2300/ month.
That same unit over this side of town would be more like $3500 - $4000/ month.

It all depends on location and the condition of the apartment.

We have friends in Manhatten who paid $6500/ month for a place smaller than the $2300 place we were renting in Philly. Unless you can score something rent controlled, NYC is impossibly expensive.

I pay $595 in Staunton, VA- up in the mountains. Great, townhouse style apartments.

In my city, $899/mo is practically unheard of, unless maybe if it's the 1 or 2 rare tiny studio apts that my city has (in which the square footage is ridicululously tiny at 475 or 525 sq ft). The average rent for a 1 bedroom (630 - 730 sq ft) is $1200 - $1320.

If I saw a regular 1 bedroom for $899/mo in my city, I'd figure there MUST be some kind of catch.
