A neighbor had a few of these when i was growing up. Both were '72 models, one was a 400 LJ (looked very similar to the one in the pic above, silver in color but with a black vinyl top) the other a 455 SJ. His son also had a '72 LJ.

I like them. Back when Pontiacs looked like Pontiacs and had large big-block engines.

My choice(s) would be:

1969 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ. 428-cu-in engine/390 horsepower. With 3.90 gears, they could run low-14s.

1966 Pontiac Grand Prix. 389-cu-in engine. My parents owned two of these back in the late '60s/early '70s. Nice, big cars.

I was a big fan of the pontic Le-Mans GT-37 of the 1970 model year would of loved one with a 400 CID and 4-BBL. well I would taken one with a 350 2-BBL but swaped in a GMPP 454HO and T-56 6-speed

Those were nice... those had the unique fully padded instrument panels too... meaning even the part surrounding the gauges was padded... a rarity in the early 70s.

Don't you mean a 455HO? Pontiac made 455s.
Or are you talking about an aftermarket engine?

GMPP stands for "GM performance parts" aka a "crate" engine. Most likely a 454 Chevy crate engine.

I dig the looks of the 1969-72 GP, though I doubt I'd win any stop light races with one unless it had a really big engine.

I like those early '70s Grand Prix's. Almost a baby Eldorado withthe jutting out fenders on both ends. But of that era Ponchos, I'm partial to the '73-76 GTO and Can Am. I was almost there with my built 400 powered Grand LeMans:

Very hard to find any of them now, especially with the black interior I'd want to match my old car.

yeah the GMPP does not sell pontiac, buick or olds motors in their catalogue
so pretty much I would be stuffing a crate big block chevy under the hood of a pontiac do to cost and ease of parts avaliblity.

I know it's wrong to put a chevy motor in a 60's/70's pontiac but it is just a cheaper way to go and since you can order the GMPP with the bell housing that will line and bolt up to the T-56 right from the box it makes it even easier and cheaper to go that route.

I wish I had the space to pick up a old le-mans with a 250 inline six and had time to actually to that swap

Was that built on the same platform as the Monte Carlo?... Looks similar if I'm not mistaken.

Yes I believe the 1969-72 GP was on the same platform as the Monte.

Merc63 you must have some work done on that Grand LeMans...otherwise I'm surprised it can even do a burnout...well unless there's bleach on the tires.
