Today is the day!
Well, I sit here at work on my last day. I've been here for 25 1/2 years. It's a strange range of feelings for sure. I will miss most of my co-workers, a few not so much lol. I will not miss commuting into NYC every day on the subway at all! The UN is an interesting place to work, that's for sure and I've met and worked with so many people from so many different backgrounds. Eye opening is one way to describe it!
I look foward to my future. I'm physically well, have a number of hobbies to keep me busy though I'll probably get a part time job.
I will be moving out of NY too. Taxes, over crowding and a number of other issues are driving me away. A lot to look foward to for sure!
I'm 57 years old so I hope for a long retirement enjoying my kids, grandkids, hobbies and my new life away from the hustle and bustle of what it is now. To sum up...YAHOOOOO!!!

Sounds great, but I am always puzzled when someone retires and then plans to take a part time job. If it is a financial issue, then it would seem much better just to work a little longer in the same job. At least for me, I can make much more in my present job than I am likely to make somewhere else. When I retire, I want the freedom to travel and not have time commitments for a job.

Enjoy and congrats !!
A milestone in the journey of life.
jrkliny..a p/t job doesn't necessarily have to be for economic reasons.
If I were retired today I could easily see myself wanting a p/t job at a plant nursery as I love being outdoors and gardening. Imagine doing your hobby and getting paid for it but without the hassle that comes from a full time "career" job ?

Yep. I retired in March and now I have a part-time job/hobby that I work at about 10-15 hours a week. However, sometimes I get paid about $50/hr. for my "work" and sometimes I lose about $50/hr. Fortunately, there have been a lot more positive weeks than negative.

Somehow working in a nursery does not sound like enjoying the outdoors or gardening. Working in a nursery sounds like loading plants, mulch and landscaping rocks into someone's pickup truck.
