I don't see how thsi is rigging something like COL when it ws never really promised as part of SS in the rifst place. The bill giving COL itsself was tied to thsi index when written . Bascially SS was never meant to be a retirement plan in and of itself really.THe CPI is what it is and plainly does not ccover all risig prices just as it can not accout for when prices drop, and certainly no one wahts to redecue when their is defaltion. It is what it is.Slashig SS is a big lie basically has I know of no oe who has had their cut by this. But since its a kind of trust we may see it in the future as the trust goes insolvent.

I have read the blog which was linked to by the OP. First, its objectivity and factuality is highly suspect (to put it mildly); just consider the repeated use of highly inflamatory and emotionally loaded language coupled with extreme partisanship. No mention is made of the rather high Social Security COLA which was granted in 2009 and which is widely believed to have been higher than actual inflation, just as the lack of COLA in 2010 and 2011 may understate some aspects of inflation. The exclusion of food and fuel costs from the CPI which determines the Soc. Sec. COLA, far from being some sinister plot, is done because these costs are very volatile and could skew the COL one way or the other at any given point in time. This blog is the polar opposite of a rational analysis. Consider this sentence from it: "The compounding of an artificially low CPI have (sic) already reduced payments to social security (capitalization sic) recipients by about half..." Stop and think about that. Is it even remotely credible? Already reduced by half????? Another over-used hate-mongering argument is the $106,800 annual wage cap on the collection of FICA taxes, and the statement that this shows the rich are getting a free ride at the expense of the rest of us. No mention is made of the fact that the benefits are also capped at that level. Not only are the rich not getting any free ride, but they are subsidizing lower wage earners by the benefit computation formulas which are used. Of course no mention is made of that - it wouldn't fit the apopletic rant, a rant in which partial facts are selected to obscure, not bring out, the truth.

As far as I can tell everything the OP links to has highly suspect objectivity and factuality. It seems to be a trend with him. Not sure why, but it's very common.

If you can't comment on the topic, which I am not, please be decent enough to keep your thoughts to yourself!

Pretty much. I'm not even going to address the article, it's so bad it's better to just start from a legitimate source not written by an angry chimpanzee with internet access.

Measuring inflation is tricky because of the magic word *Substitution*. Substitution is where coffee prices shoot up due to some issue and so you buy less coffee and drink more tea etc. There are also habit changes like driving less when gas prices get high but I think that paints the picture.

So traditionally inflation is measured by taking a constant bundle of goods (mostly) and just seeing what that bundle costs over time so it did NOT reflect substitution and as a result tends to OVERSTATE actual inflation by around 0.5%.

This is a WONDERFUL article on the topic by an AWESOME non-partisan website called factcheck. Tightwad, I think you should check this article out and perhaps even bookmark the site, it will probably save you a lot of heartburn and anxiety because it seems like these crazy partisan sites you keep going to are basically trolling you.

Ironically (and in interest of equal time) this fact check response was to claims that the DEMOCRATS were hurting social security so yes, both parties are rife with fearmongering liars.
