Am I the only one who would buy a large ranch in Montana, or maybe Idaho or Wyoming? Then build a smallish but nice house, a big garage, and set up all the shooting sports - trap, skeet, 1000 yard or more rifle range, action shooting for 3 gun. If the money pot is truly bottomless, I would build a full scale Neubering track.
Having built all that stuff, would have to put up a standing invite to various buddies to come shoot, hunt, fish, and/or drive. Noblesse oblige, and all that, besides, what good is all this sporting equipent without some friendly rivals?

Oregon... Willamette Valley... it's the perfect spot. Close to the coast, close to the mountains, but in the valley better weather and easier access to things like medical care and CostCo.
Sacramento is boring except the historic town halls in Downtown and Stockton is worse.
We lived just north of Sacto in Rocklin for a short while. We found it boring, too. I'm a Texas girl but I'll never go back to Texas. Washington state was OK but nothing beats Oregon for me.

I've lived here twice - this is my second time living here actually. First time for three years. Then we moved north, didn't like it (too many people) and so we came back ASAP. We're going on 4 years back now. I don't ever want to leave.
California was no good for us. Too expensive, too much traffic, too many people, too much trash and pollution, to many orange fake'n'bake people. And the areas along the coast like San Fran and San Diego - too many tourists. Sort of the same reasons we didn't like Seattle, either. Seattle was way worse, though... road rage is bad there. And that area was just no intended for that many people.
I'm sure Montana or Idaho... somewhere around there you could find your house on your mountain. Or Eastern Oregon perhaps... northeastern Oregon. I've heard northern Idaho is really beautiful. Lots of little under the radar artists colonies up in there I've been told.
How much are those houses? Are they new? Seems congested.
I want my house to be the only house on some high peak.
I thought the thread was premised, IF MONEY WAS NOT AN ISSUE.
