NYGal - I hope you start to feel better. It does get frustrating trying to communicate with Dr's offices. We did have one really nice PCP who retired on us. The nerve!!! Lol. I think the rules & regs the powers that be were forcing upon him, the Dr., really got to him. He got tired of being forced to see too many patients in one day.

MEO - So excited for you to almost be at your new home. Welcome to Arizona!

Jim - Good luck with your new keyboard!

Jean - Glad to hear your window project is moving along and almost finished. I hope the new hurricane, Irma, stays far away from you. Actually, I hope it stays far away from everyone and stays at sea!

Thanks HollyhockGarden, I keep up on all the hurricane news and follow a blog called Tropical Tidbits that is really informational and non-sensational with good, solid information. Weather geeks are a whole different breed of people, they are so passionate about it. The weather forum here on C-D has a hurricane sub-forum that is quite good.

A component for the screen didn't make it in time, so I have today off and they will finish next week. We paid a third up front with the remainder due when everything is finished, so I know they will finish as soon as possible.

What we have realized with this project is what a difference it makes having a company with their own employees, rather than one using sub-contractors. Their communications with us and between themselves has been excellent.

We have estimates from three pool companies and the one that has its own employees is now looking like the one we will go with. All three were competitive and had good designs and ideas. The one with 3-D CAD design software dazzled us for a while, but we liked the other two designs better after we got the glitter out of our eyes.

We are getting the house ready for retirement while the money is still coming in.

I just received a text with a sonogram picture of our new little granddaughter to be. Our youngest grandchild just left for college, so we are very excited to welcome this new one in January.

A week ago I went to a doctor (gastroenterologist, actually saw his R.N.) for a problem I had been having for 2+ weeks. I was trying to treat it myself but I finally gave up. But by the time I got there (doctor's appointment), it had almost cleared up. The nurse explained to me there was medicine they could give me for it and if it happened again, to call her.

OK, it happened again and I thought I should call to avoid all the discomfort I had experienced before.

First I had to explain to the person on the phone all the gory details of my problem and then she asked several more questions. I'm not even sure this person was a nurse.

She put me through to a nurse. Once again, I had to explain what was wrong and why I was calling. I was told she would have to get back to me. I got another call later from another person, who once again asked me what the problem was, said she would get back to me. Lastly, I received another phone call (about 5 p.m.) from a man who (you guessed it) asked me what was the problem. Yup, he'd have to get back to me.

No, no one got back to me. I'm thinking of skipping the phone and going to the office to talk to a manager.

Is this what I can expect from doctors from now on?
This can be so frustrating, I know. I have good luck by asking for Dr. Soandso's nurse. I usually get her voicemail, but I only need to state my problem once.

Additionally, the medical group I go to has a walkin clinic daily, from 2-7:00 pm. If I need something right now, I just get over there and see whomever is on call.

But I had a gastro appt recently too, and was only able to see the PA. Really, I like that better, because they seem less hurried, she ordered several tests and by the time I see the actual doctor, 2 months will have gone by. I guess someone ruled out a slowly leaking aneurism, lol.

It seems the "specialists" are more protected by their staff. I did finally get a call the next day and did get some information from the nurse who called me. Unfortunately, I was so rattled I forgot to give a bit more info on something else (directly related to the problem) I was having a problem with. Now I don't want to call back and go through same stuff. I had mentioned my original R.N.'s name who I had seen the week before but that made no impression.

I've often thought that when a person reaches a "certain age", their efforts seem to diminish. I saw it with my mother.
