Wildfire near me, I can see the smoke from my patio and a BLM helicopter for water drops just flew over. Sigh...

I felt like a decadent retiree this morning.

DH is off traveling and I stayed up late watching a movie until 2:30 last night. I usually go to bed at 11 at the latest and get up around six, I’m a morning person. Our DIL is off this week and I don’t have the grandkids. No responsibilities and no workmen expected to be here today. A rare occurrence lately.

Perfect, I can sleep in. Except the doorbell rings at 8, waking me out of a sound sleep. I get up, no one is at the door but there’s a county truck with the official insignia on the door parked out front. Oh-oh! I slipped on my clothes and look in the back yard. There is a man walking around the pool cage perimeter. He was there to inspect the pool cage construction and needed inside. I had the screen doors locked. He was a nice guy, loved the pool and passed the cage, handing me a ream of completed permit papers to add to all the others.

I had to really fight the urge to tell him how I’m always up early, I never sleep in..... like he would care or believe me. Sigh. I might as well start eating bonbons and be done with it.

Jim -- Saw your post and noticed you have not posted here in the Chat since the 4th. I hope you and your dog are safe and okay. Fires are terrible.,

Jean -- Glad the pool passed inspection. Yay!

Busy week here for us! We have VBS every night. I am so appreciative that the church schedules this event in the evening and provides a supper. It makes it so much easier for working people and they open it to all adults, too.

We are ok. It was 98 degrees yesterday with 30-40mph hot winds, the window air conditioner kept it 86 in the living room. Another hot day today forecast and all week.

Went for a short walk at sunrise and my dog found the other dogs grave. He layed down and whined. This has been tougher than I ever thought it would be.

Take him/her back on a regular basis. Grieving is a slow process, even for animals.

HollyhockGarden, there’s one last inspection for the pool yet to check for proper drainage on the site after the pool was put in. The pool company office called asking if we had sod in for the final inspection. The answer was no, landscaping with retaining walls and rocks are three weeks out yet. The woman told us technically we can’t swim in the pool until that final sign off. Yeah, right, like that’s going to be enforceable. We’ve been swimming everyday. We’re still pinching ourselves that we aren’t dreaming and it’s real.

After landscaping, the fence that DH had been keeping on life support for six years will finally be replaced. We knew a pool was going in eventually and were holding out on the fence. We are almost done

Jim, Glad the house/property is okay. So sad about the other Pup. Sounds like Tek_Freek has some sound advice, like the idea of keeping the other Pup on leash around the grave. This will all take time.

Jean, of course you are going to be swimming in the pool, LoL. Enjoy!!!

My brother and I went to an old-fashioned community band concert tonight after VBS. It was terrific -- players from @ ages 15 to 90 - probably 100 musicians and 300-350 or so in audience. The musical theme tonight was Musical Memories 1918-2018, quite broad. They played some Sousa marches played during WW1, 2001 A Space Odyssey Theme, the Oklahoma medley, a Walt Disney songs medley, something from Star Trek, Amazing Grace --- all sorts of great music. The concerts are weekly and last until school starts again in late August. We really feel fortunate to have these things available in our community.

You are lucky to live in a community with concerts like that, it sounds wonderful. You are also lucky you love music and like to get out and go to show your support: a double win.
