Well, I talked with a landlord today in the small mountain town I want to move back to. Check in hand...

I was told I was not a desirable tenant because of my career "as a cop" and I would make the other tenants "uncomfortable and anxious". Further since I moved here from Arkansas I am "obviously a redneck and racist". Just wouldn't "fit in".

Alrighty then.

^^^^^^^^ WHAT????????

Jim, you do NOT want to move there.

I have words for whoever said that to you, but not for C-D readers.

Can't believe it - seems he was the redneck. I think most people would feel a bit safer with you there even though you're retired.

We have 2 cops in the neighborhood and I like it and have never heard anyone say they didn't. They are Mpls cops and not Edina - not sure that makes a difference.

You would think that made you more desirable. Strange how people think. Sorry Jim.

Ridiculous. What is wrong with some people? Definitely not someone you'd want for a landlord.

I don't think it makes a difference in Minnesota where they are from. We're taught from day 1 to have respect for the police. I always felt safer knowing they were there.

Been retired 10 years, I absolutely could care less what anyone does. Now if I see someone doing physical harm to another, I'll step in. Other than that, don't care. And being from Arkansas, I worked and lived in a metro area of 500,000 people. There are more "racist rednecks" where I live now than I ever encountered there. Plus I'm part Comanche and half my family is Hispanic.

Anyway, this was not my first choice but the only affordable place for rent. I'll keep looking. Maybe I'll win the lottery.

Jim -- You certainly do NOT want that Bozo for a landlord.

Today is your lucky day!

There are many decent landlords out there and many good people in Colorado.

Just keep looking; something will turn up.

Wow, that is just bizarre. I (almost) can't believe someone could be that rude. Hey, have you considered moving to AZ? We don't have the really high mountains here, but the people are generally nice.
