Not where I want to live, there are very few rentals and every single place NO PETS. I'll stay here and be miserable so I can keep my Gus.
Landlords that are pet lovers and sympathetic are out there, but they are becoming rare everywhere. I hope you find one soon.
The pat answer that is given out to rent for a year before buying when relocating is very sensible, but totally unrealistic in the current environment of no pets allowed in most rentals. Ones that do rent may not allow cats or limit dog size to a certain pound limit. It’s not easy to be a pet lover these days.

That is for sure. We sold our house in Florida in January 2017 and had to be out by March 31. Came up here to buy and were not finding anything we really liked, so I also tried to line up a rental just in case. Did find one where for a refundable pet deposit of $1000 in addition to the regular deposit, they would let us keep our two cats. Luckily we did find a house to buy and got moved in time.
Well there's no way I will ever afford one of those $400,000 starter homes where I want to live, so renting is the only option.
Right now it's actually quiet (a rare day) and my dog is snoozing on the patio in what little shade there is. Only 98 degrees outside.
I've had more than one person I know tell me "get rid of that dog" and I can live where I want. Nope, not happening. Not after everything we've been through.
Yeah Jim, I totally agree. I would give not up my dog either! Hang in there, as it sounds like you know the town where you want to live. We haven't rented for several years, but the last time we did, we were able to find a small park model in a 55+ mobile home park that allowed pets. I wonder if there would even be a campground around with long term rates where you could buy a trailer and live for awhile until something more permanent comes up?
I'm sure you've investigated all the options, but it sucks that you have such awful creeps in your area!
Congrats on your Cola! Jim. Hope your trout dinner will be good.
I understand about keeping your dog, and I wouldn't give up on that either, I say as a pup is trying to get at my keyboard as I am typing! The right place will come along, but it's not a bad idea to expand your search area a wee bit.
Caught my limit (4) rainbow trout. Two in the freezer two on the grill. It was 65 degrees at 11,000 feet but mosquitoes were insane there. 101 here now. Too bad I can't live up there.
HollyhockGarden - thanks but I retired here to live in a certain town, and loved it there until I moved to this oven. Have zero desire to move to someplace else just to move to where I want to live. So I'll stay here until I find something where I want to live.
Took my Australian Shepherd to the groomer today. He got 3 hours of pampering, a bath, nails, done, coat blown out. Looks like a new dog! Seems to feel better too, not panting as much in this 100 degrees today. Has never been to a groomer before, they said he was the best behaved dog they've ever had.
While he was being pampered I mowed a relatives 10 acres then took her to lunch. Holiday traffic is insane.
