Hope everyone had an enjoyable day!

Went to an impromptu pot luck at my friends' RV park. Spent the morning cooking, but truly enjoyed the day. About 12 of us got together for a meal at noon. After we ate, we played several rounds of a game called "dirty board". Spoke with my children a little bit ago - sure do miss them but glad to hear they're both doing fine.

I hope yall had a nice Christmas. It was sunny and near 50 here, spent the day with relatives, about 20 in all, the nieces and nephews were fun to watch opening presents and playing. Enough food to feed an army so I took home plenty of leftovers. Nothing like a fried turkey and dressing sandwich at midnight! And I got two fruitcakes, which is all I ever ask for on Christmas.

2 inches of snow overnight, a nice quiet sunrise walk.

Sera, I’ll share my experience with tv in case it’s helpful. Years ago, my brother who had shared a condo with me moved into his own home, and I gave him the tv. My plan was to buy a new one, but for six years, I just never got around to it. Then I got one, but was out of the tv habit, so only used it for my young nieces and nephews. I did buy a smart tv a few years ago, but find I’m mostly using it to stream music and watch an occasional documentary. Once you get out of the habit, it’s easy to do without.

Having said that, I’m not sure that would be the case if it weren’t for my iPad. I’m not a popular entertainment snob, and watch an occasional house hunters or Netflix movie on the iPad. I get all my news from reading newspapers on the iPad. Probably would turn on the tv in the evenings more if not for the tablet. But I haven’t watched or wanted to watch any tv sitcom or drama show since the day my brother moved out with the tv around 18 years ago.

My folks in their nineties watch tv a lot and use Netflix, britbox and amazon prime on their smart tv, plus a couple of classical music/opera/play subscription channels. If my life ends up with the same sort of reading and moving disabilities, I’ll return to watching tv with a vengeance. Another thing that might make a difference is that I share my home with a friend, frequently spend a few days visiting my parents, and get out of the house a lot during the day. If I had less going on around me, I’d probably watch tv more just for a semblance of company.

I’m sure you’ll figure what works best for you. Just asking “do I really need a tv?” suggests that perhaps your answer at this time in your life will be no. If it was important to you, you probably wouldn’t be questioning it. Plus the decision isn’t final. If you find you miss it, go after it at that point.

today I feel like the "holidays" are behind me and the new year beckons. I finished the Christmas cookies yesterday . I am looking forward to the days getting longer. and knowing that its a downward slide to spring.

Sera, I have a Roku. It is very easy to set up and use. It is also inexpensive to purchase and no monthly fee. I have the cheapest one. I don't subscribe to any extras. My wifi bill is more than I like paying but it includes a landline (I don't have a cell phone). I use my tv/Roku to listen to music, as a yoga companion, research products I am interested in, etc.

That said, if I found myself without tv, I would do without it for awhile. I can't read comfortably anymore, but I would find things to do which don't involve sitting for an hour or two at a time. I have been without a tv for a few stretches and I think life is better without it

I didn't have TV or even Internet for months after I moved as a single to my forever home. I didn't miss it for a minute. I listened to the Spurs games on the radio, then a couple of nighttime talk radio hosts I'd never heard before. I played Solitaire on my computer and read books, magazines, and newspapers. After a few months my new neighbor gave me an antenna as he got a new one, so this gave me the 3 local channels and the sub-stations of them, plus a few others. 6 months later I got WiFi.

I went from going to the whole "kit and kaboodle" of the packaged TV, phone and Internet at over $100.00/mo. to free TV, basic Internet through WiFi (14.99), and StraightTalk Home Phone, all local calls and unlimited LD calls for 15.00/mo. I pet sit for people who have cable or satellite service, I still cannot find anything to watch except for a few stations that I can count on one hand. I will never go back to the garbage that is now on TV.

It’s colder now than when I went to bed. My cousin was released from the hospital on Christmas Eve. He is staying with a friend.
My ex-Dil stopped by earlier and told me. She was married to him before she married my son. She was young and naive, didn’t understand what being married to him comes with.

Yesterday I had an appointment with an eye specialist, retina, vitreous, etc. My right eye is once again having a problem with seeing clearly. And recently started having a sharp pain now and then. So the exam showed the back of my eye is swollen which will prevent more surgery (the doctor said I've already had a lot of it, yes I know that). So go back in April for a re-evaluation. Also something going on with the choroid. A couple of times he said "worse" and "worser". I think I was in la-la land yesterday, I didn't ask questions, I just sat and let him examine my eyes and tell the tech what he was finding. I usually ask questions, What does that mean? What is that? But this time I didn't seem to care.

I do care but it seems like there is no end to it and of course the worst thing in my opinion would be for me to lose vision in that eye.

I know, I know..... I'm whining. But I needed to today.

Anyone out there understand this eye problem?

(I have glaucoma and had the surgery in both eyes as well as a lot of laser surgery.)
